After a wet and windy few days including Storm Collum what a relief it was for the organisers of the ‘Play in Pink’ 2018 National Final to wake to a glorious sunny Sunday morning in the midlands.
Fifty two qualifiers from clubs all over Ireland descended in a sea of pink on to Glasson Golf course in Athlone. In spite of the inclement weather the previous week the course was in splendid condition and a great day’s golf was enjoyed by all with winners achieving excellent scores.
This was followed by a Gala Dinner and Presentation evening. The guests included the president of the ILGU Vonnie Noonan and Chairman of National Breast Cancer Research Institute Patricia McLoughlin. Those present were enthralled by Dr Roisin Dwyer, Chief Scientist at the Lambe Institute, NUI Galway, who gave an excellent update on recent progress in breast cancer research.
These outstanding developments benefit from the generosity of golfers from 125 clubs nationwide who so far in 2018 have raised €165,000 for this extremely worthy cause.
